The standard test method of determining the softening point of bitumen (ASTM D36) which is applied on Parsian Technology device, has expressed: two tablets of bitumen which are molded horizontally into the edged brass rings and steel balls are placed on each of them, are heated in a liquid bath with a controlled rate. The average temperature, at which each of the two tablets is softened enough to allow the balls to sink into them by 25 mm, is reported as the softening point of bitumen.
